About Radar

Welcome to Radar, the new music site from scotsman.com

The simple purpose of Radar is to provide a platform for the best up and coming musical talent in Scotland - whether that's punk or pop, indie or industrial, shoegaze or synthpop.

We want to be the most reliable place to hear the groundbreaking and underground musicians currently making waves in the native scene - without being parochial about it.

The key to our approach is that no artist is too 'independent' or 'unknown' to be considered. If we like what we hear, we'll write about it, and we think this is what sets us apart from other mainstream music media.

We benefit from having a network of enthusiastic writers around the country, each closely involved in their respective scenes, but we're nothing without our readership, and we hope that we can create a community atmosphere and a spirit of debate through our editorials and - more importantly - your comments.

As well as the regular blogs covering anything from gig listings to industry news, we now have a browse-friendly A-Z directory of all our featured artists and a dedicated podcast channel.

This website builds on the success of the Under the Radar blog, which was established in late 2008 and was nominated for a Record of the Day award for its coverage of new music.

Let's make sure the best new music in this country is always on the Radar.

Radar - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is Radar?
A. Radar is a new website covering the Scottish music scene, with a focus on new and unsigned artists.

Q. Why is it called Radar?
A. We used to be 'Under the Radar'. Now we're simply 'Radar'. It's shorter, snappier, and we want the artists we feature to be 'on the radar', not under it.

Q. Who is behind Radar?
A. All the content on Radar is commissioned and edited by Nick Mitchell, an online journalist at scotsman.com, and Billy Hamilton, a freelance music writer. We have a group of regular writers whose details can be found on the Contributors page.

Q. How can I submit music or press releases to Radar?
A. You can get in touch via the Contact page. You can send MP3s to radar.scotsman@gmail.com or search for us on SoundCloud.com. Please be aware that we can't respond to every enquiry. There aren't enough hours in the day.
